The Devil is in the Astrological Details – Putin’s Obsession with Power

It is fitting that Vladimir Putin has several planets in and at the cusp of the 12th house, because hidden operations were and still are the autocrat’s modus operandi. The Soviet Union’s KGB was typical of behind-the-scenes activity as the 12th house well represents. Putin’s 16 years of experience as a foreign intelligence officer laid the foundation for his ongoing political appointments both clandestine and later in the public eye.

Putin’s planets in the 12th house relate to his devious plans to eliminate the power of his adversaries by one means or another. He has silenced them, and the truth, by taking over all Russian media, and has secretly and openly murdered his political opponents. His invasion of Ukraine holds the entire world hostage with the occasional brandishing of his nuclear arsenal. He did, however, underestimate the resistance of the free world presently united around a courageous Ukraine. Even Russian soldiers, themselves, fled the country when they awakened to the fact that they were hapless pawns in the autocrat’s brutal methods to maintain control and power.

Progressed Neptune

To deceive others as well as himself is the result of Putin’s progressed Neptune still within its conjunction to natal Mercury in the hidden realms of the 12th house. The Neptunian propensity for intrigue permeated his mind through Mercury, to conjure a plot to overthrow a neighboring country.

It is rare to see a slow-moving, progressed planet merge to make an aspect with a natal planet. However, when it does so, attention must be paid because these alignments have a long-term influence on a person or nation. Putin’s progressed Neptune was exact in its conjunction with natal Mercury in 2011. In 2022, it was just minutes beyond its intense conjunction when he took the unprovoked offensive against Ukraine. This dynamic1 conjunction reveals his concentration on the Mercurial, detailed tactics going on deep within the dark recesses of his unfathomable psyche. The progression is ultra-slow and points to Putin’s irrepressible Neptunian delusions of grandeur that have finally come out of the 12th house closet for all to see.

Neptune is also associated with the positive upliftment of soul through faith and the belief in beneficent higher forces. The planet’s meaning includes a concern for the welfare of the community along with a strong sense of belonging and inclusion. When in its negative mode, one can be lost in an impractical and illusory world where a clouded vision leads to escapism through an addiction to drugs, food, or alcohol, or with involvement with insidious cults, and at times, simply by a blatant sense of superiority. Such is the case in Neptune’s present progression in the sign of Libra which normally is synonymous with balance and harmony. When out of balance, the sign is conflict-oriented and can provoke outright enmity. Authority then devolves into autocracy and dictatorship for anyone in a leadership position.

The 12th house “hosts” hidden opponents while the 7th house indicates open enemies in direct warfare. Putin’s war invokes the tactics of both houses. The 12th house dynamic activity helped fabricate the outlandish narrative of a fear of Nazism to justify his deadly 7th house attack on Ukraine in February 2022. If the motivation to eliminate Nazis were true, then Putin should be the first to go, as his aggression committed against Ukrainian civilians, mirrors albeit to a lesser degree, the genocide perpetrated on the Jews during World War II.

Added to the drama of the Neptune to Mercury conjunction is Putin’s progressed Mercury station that went direct in 2016. Corresponding to this reset of planetary and real-life direction is Russia’s unapologetic interference in the US presidential election of that same year. The line on the ephemeris graph shows the secondary progressions for the age of the Russian president in 2022. The circled station-direct of Mercury above it is astrological “evidence” of cyberspace tampering with the US 2016 elections documented in the Mueller Report.2

Transits and Progressions

A focus on the Nadir of the chart shows a combination of dynamic aspects working together in conjunction with the natal North Node. Transit Saturn and progressed Mars were both conjunct the North Node in the initial days of the invasion and both planets are edging ever closer to an exact opposition to natal Pluto, elevated at the Midheaven. Saturn acts in a more immediate way because its transit moves far faster than the Mars progression. Saturn moved on to oppose natal Pluto on April 9, 2022, then stationed to go retrograde on June 5, 2022, at 25 Aquarius 15. It returned to oppose Pluto in early August of the same year. On October 23 it went direct, opposite Pluto at 18 Aquarius 35. In late December 2022 through early January 2023, Saturn was exact again in its final opposition in this series of tense aspects with natal Pluto. Saturn’s proximity to Putin’s 4th house cusp brings attention to the desire on his part to establish new territorial boundaries, whether he succeeds in doing so or not.

Natal Pluto, Point and High Focus

 The longer-term progressed Mars follows Saturn’s advances but takes approximately four years to complete its ominous progression. First, it will enter Putin’s 4th house before it reaches its exact opposition to natal Pluto due in 2026-2027 (see Dec. 1952 ephemeris). This is highly significant because Pluto is the Point Focus of the T Cross created by the foundational opposition of Venus to Jupiter. Pluto is the opposition’s outlet for any stress and strain formed by the polarized aspect, and its powers are intensified by its elevated position in very tight conjunction with the Midheaven. These factors bring Pluto into High Focus as well as Point Focus, and for the politician wishing to make an impression on the world, this planet is Putin’s greatest astrological “ally.” Unfortunately, the use of his powers has been a negative expression of the planet revealed by the suppression of the rights and freedoms of the people he rules, and by the brutal slaughter of innocent men, women, and children of Ukraine.

Because Putin is the leader and surrogate of the Russian people, everyone in the country is subjected to his chart with its natal and dynamic aspects. They experienced, along with him, the constructive initiatives he put into action that improved the economic situation in his early political career, but the populous is also exposed to the effects of the extreme sanctions currently imposed upon the country as a punitive measure.

Astrological Influences and Sabian Symbols

The astrological influences are:

Transit Saturn conjunct the Nadir opposite natal Pluto 2022 – 2023; The Progressed New Moon July 31, 2023, and The Progressed New Moon conjunct natal Mars July 31, 2023.

The Sabian symbols shed great light on the inner world of a native’s subconscious. Natal Saturn is in close contact with Putin’s natal Sun, making for a hypersensitivity that compensates through sheer shrewdness in the creation of a fortress of self-deception, defensiveness and self-justification. Under a veil of confidence and prowess, there is a suggestion of moral deviousness with Saturn’s Sabian symbol degree rounded to 18 Libra, Two men placed under arrest. The symbol’s description hints that the dictator may be accountable for war crimes at some point. The symbol’s keyword is CONSEQUENCE. In Marc Edmund Jones’ Sabian Symbols in Astrology, he writes, “When positive, the degree is a heightened challenge to every special talent, and when negative, total inappropriateness of impulse and act.”

In their negative manifestation, the progressed and transit aspects active on February 24, 2022 drove Putin out of his 12th house subjectivity and onto the 7th house open battlefield. Progressed Jupiter, at the onset of the full-scale invasion, was exact to the minute at 11 Taurus 42 in opposition to natal Venus in Scorpio. The intensified polarization of the two normally benefic planets activated the wide orb T Cross to Pluto at the Midheaven. This tension-producing progression of Jupiter was further amplified through the proximity of the Uranus transit applying in conjunction with it in opposition to Venus within 15 minutes of exactitude.

The Progressed New Moon

A powerful astrological indication of the possibility of a dramatic outcome and finale for Putin’s atrocities is the imminent Progressed New Moon exact on July 31, 2023. It is normal for a Progressed New moon to indicate an extreme redirection in one’s current life path.

Among the vast number of individuals whose lives illustrate the power of Progressed New Moons is President Joe Biden. It was when his Progressed New Moon was minutes of being exact that the former US Vice President in the Obama Administration announced his run for president in the campaign season of the 2020 elections. Considering its wide orb allowance, Putin’s future is already being influenced by this dynamic aspect foretelling a great life reconstruction.

The meeting of the progressed Lights within the Progressed Lunation Cycle marks the completion of a phase of life that ultimately makes way for the next. The unexpecting native will encounter a need to leave behind patterns of behavior to which he is accustomed and at the same time cultivate the intent to go forward with what is likely a vague and unpredictable future. The aspect list shows the core dates of the second of the three possible Progressed New Moons that can occur in Putin’s lifetime.

The progressed Lights now traveling through Putin’s 2nd house of economic affairs reveal that the heavy sanctions, among other burdens placed upon the country, may very well be the beginning of his and his country’s serious self-examination. This reveals a crisis in national consciousness that Putin and his people are bound to encounter. There have been predictions made by several individuals that may have inside information or at least a familiarity with how things work in the Kremlin. In an interview on CNN, Mikhail Khodorkovsky, the exiled Russian businessman and at one time wealthiest Russian, stated, “I’m convinced that Putin hasn’t got much time left. Maybe a year, maybe three.”3 However, what he is basing his assumptions on is not clear. Another prediction is based on rumors of Putin’s bad health, when Sir Richard Dearlove on his co-hosted podcast, stated, “I think he’ll be gone by 2023 – but probably into the sanatorium, from which he will not emerge as the leader of Russia.”4 Interestingly, Dearlove, the former head of UK’s Secret Intelligence Service, puts Putin’s possible fall from power exactly in the year of the profound astrological event of his Progressed New Moon.

The Revealing Sabian Symbols

Circled on the ephemeris graph for December 1952 shows progressed Mars taking four to five years from Putin’s present age, for its opposition to Pluto to become exact. Natal planets need to be referenced when interpreting their dynamic movements. Mars in its natal expression is very telling in its Sabian symbol rounded to Sagittarius 27, A sculptor. The keyword for Sagittarius 27 is IMMORTALIZATION. Jones writes about this image stating, “When positive, the degree is exceptional self-expression through a gift for building all experience into a personal fulfillment, and when negative, callous impersonality and overambitious pretensions.”

More significantly, the Progressed New Moon in July 2023 will conjunct natal Mars. This direct activation of Mars and its Sabian symbol will create an overwhelming boost of energy. First, the Progressed New Moon will tightly conjunct the birth Mars, then progressed Mars will carry that seeded aspect-event toward the opposition to natal Pluto a few years hence. The New Moon conjunct natal Mars foretells of a 2nd house reordering of the Russian economy. Progressed Mars at the Nadir, opposing Pluto, may just be what it takes astrologically to bring the autocrat to his knees.

It is likely that any immortalization (the symbol’s keyword) of Putin will be a reflection of the negative expression of the natal Mars degree. In lieu of a more positive manifestation of the chart, we have a tragic waste of life potentials shown in this otherwise extremely promising horoscope with two T Crosses; one to the powerful elevated Pluto and the other to planets in a stellium5 that includes the natal Sun. In place of enjoying a gratifying summation of his life’s work, the dictator leaves a deep footprint of destruction behind him in the world. Putin’s reputation is forever tarnished, and he will go down in history as one whose evil acts brought about his own condemnation. At the same time, his unforgivable aggression has catapulted his Ukrainian “adversary,” President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, to heroic heights. Putin managed to unite almost the entire world against him, illustrating the negative expression of his Pluto Sabian symbol, Leo 23, A bareback rider. The keyword for Leo 23 is AUDACITY. Jones states, “When positive, the degree is uncompromising courage in the everyday business of living and a carefree assurance in meeting the problems of a modern society, and when negative, idle self-display and intemperate desire for applause.”

The world is watching and waiting for the war to come to a favorable end, especially for those in harm’s way. While there are astrological harbingers foretelling imminent change, there is nothing to do but to witness the mysterious connection between the celestial movements and events taking place before our eyes.

The Birth and Remaking of America – Mercury-Pluto Opposition and Pluto Return

In recent years, Americans and observers worldwide have been captivated by the turmoil within the United States (US) concerning its intense partisan politics. At the same time, media pundits have failed to adequately explain the nature and causes of the political power struggle that continues to challenge the principles of democracy.

Astrologers, however, understand the uniqueness of our times when noting several dynamic aspects1 that have been activating the potentials of the July 4, 1776 birth chart of the United States. The aspects are the April 5, 2017, US progressed Mercury station that synchronized with the commencement of the Trump administration, the present transit of Pluto now well within the parameters of its 248-year pilgrimage-return to its natal degree, and the progressed Moon aspects from 2021 to 2024.

THE UNITED STATES HOROSCOPE

The horoscope of a nation carries great weight in comparison with the chart of an individual, because of its broad reference to the masses, and by its symbolism contributes to a comprehensive understanding of an entire culture. This enduring effect brings with it the responsibility to create a national horoscope with a favorable resonance between the promise of guiding “stars” and the goals of the society in the making. A fortuitous date, time, and place should be chosen with the best planetary configurations that will support the collective’s desired ideals and objectives. During the establishment of the United States, some of the Founding Fathers were Freemasons and involved with metaphysics, yet it is unknown if their practices included the use of astrology, and if so, whether Electional horoscopy was used in the choice of the inaugural time for the Declaration of Independence. Whether the union was formed with a consideration of celestial factors or by chance, the planetary patterning on July 4, 1776, contained the seeds that would determine the nation’s destiny.

The origin of American thought took its cues from Europe’s Age of Enlightenment, whose thinkers believed they could “create better societies and better people.” Intellectuals from both continents traveled between the old and new worlds during America’s mounting revolution. In his pamphlet, Common Sense,2 published six months prior to the Declaration of Independence, Thomas Paine proclaimed, “The birthday of a new world is at hand.”  The Englishman’s philosophy played an important role in creating the new paradigm that clarified the benefits of a republic versus monarchy. His widely distributed writings helped prod-to-arms the tattered soldier on the colonial battlefield, and when reaching the common citizen, gave them reason to rally to the revolution in lockstep with the Founders’ intent to form a union based on the protection of human rights through democratic elections and legislation.

The most revealing astrological factor defining the stark transition from monarchy to an emerging democracy was Mercury in station-retrograde at the time of America’s establishment. The station nurtured the extraordinary mental activity required of its leaders for the development of an American ethos and for laying the ground for inestimable levels of achievement to be reached by its free and aspiring populace.

Virginia’s Thomas Jefferson, who incidentally had a transit of Pluto passing over his natal Uranus in 1776, was tasked with drafting the Declaration of Independence. This was simply a Mercurial function, and with his eloquent narrative style, he definitively explained, point by point, the causes that provoked the Patriot colonists to revolt and engage in battle against the Loyalists to Great Britain’s King George III. Jefferson’s writings introduced what he considered to be “an expression of the American mind.” Not born of originality nor a derivative of established thought, the American perspective, he explained in later years, simply reflected the needs of the time.3

The inner ponderings of America’s Founders materialized objectively with the Second Continental Congress’s approval of the Declaration of Independence at 1:52 am4 on July 4, 1776, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. With this decision, the colonists officially severed ties with the British Crown to reach their goal of establishing separate yet united states in accordance with the heavenly configurations of the moment. Dr. Marc Edmund Jones, in his Mundane Perspectives in Astrology,5 based his US chart’s time on the popular use of Gemini rising by several notable astrologers of his day, and by the authorization of the American Federation of Astrologers. With a bit of rectification Jones settled on a 3 Gemini 34 ascendant.

BIRTHING A NATION UNDER A MERCURY STATION

In the segment on Collective Nativities in Mundane Perspectives, Jones designates Mercury in his US chart diagram as stationary-retrograde. However, the ephemeris for 1776 shows the station to be exact on June 28, just days before the announcement of independence in early July. Planetary stations, whether in transit or progression, point to a crescendo in the development of events that facilitates a psychological shift in perspective resulting in a dramatic transformation of existential affairs. Jones explains the virtual phenomenon in his Scope of Astrological Prediction as a pivotal period demanding “a critical regrasp of experience.” 6 Unlike transit stations, which need to aspect a natal planet by conjunction or opposition to be effective for chart interpretation, a progressed station need not make an aspect with a birth planet, and is often associated with events somewhat in advance or some time after their pause to change direction.

The Squares of Real Mathematics evolve from the necessary “addition” of One more than the number of Things ac-counted for. This “added” One is the One who does the counting, but in the progressive “halving” involved in the process-progression it appears in every point (.), as Counter-Image, Counter-Object, and Counter Abstract-Concrete Symbol. The real count of 4, therefore, is the square of 5, of 5 the square of 6, etc. In simple-complex analysis, 25 points-images are involved in Abram’s account of 4 sheep. Had he counted 9 sheep, he would have employed 100 points-images, all of them both real and really imaginary. We now understand more perfectly why primitives experience much difficulty in learning to count beyond 3 or 4 or 5; their degree of psycho-somatic integration is not very high, and their power of reflection is very low.

Common time aside, time is a mere fancy. Generalized time is a myth, the skeleton of all myths. There are no clocks or calendars in nature; the only real time anywhere in the universe is now. The fact that you can remember yesterday and anticipate to-morrow conspires with your superstitious love of the unknown to keep you from realizing this obvious fact, just as the fact that you pace the ground conspires with your ignore-ant fear of the unknown to keep you from realizing that there is no place but here. Though you mounted a sunbeam and road for a year, now would still be now and here would still be here; — though beyond the blue, you would still be you. Common-sense is of all things the most uncommon, and disillusionment is incredible to the credulous victims of illusion. Time-space is the greatest and most imposing illusion. It is pure mirror land. There is but one, real place duration, –the three-dimensional here-now, — the universal manifold of the omnipresent. Obvious. But who can realize the obvious? Mythomaniacs prefer religious-scientific fairy tales to the simple, immediate and knowable facts. The Evolutionist and the Seventh Day Adventist share the same delusion, — that fictions about the past are anything more than fiction. The Fourth Dimension is the scientist’s version-vision of heaven, but instead of a harp he fingers a formula, and his paradisical houri are the abstract skeletons of flesh-less figures. Buddha, mounted on an absolute negation, went Nowhere and arrived at his destination, but Einstein, mounted on an asymptote to asininity, powered by a formula of relativity, is still on his way: if the two ever meet, there will be a head-on collision of Absolute Nothing and Nothing Absolute, but nothing, — not even deified Nothing, — will happen, and the smoke will go up the chimney just the same.

The Menendez Brothers and the Sharp and Loose Destiny

Lyle, and his younger brother Erik, shot and killed their parents, Jose and Kitty Menendez, at their home in Beverly Hills on the evening of August 20, 1989. Soon after the killing, the two brothers went on an eccentric spending-spree with their inheritance and proceeded to live an extravagant lifestyle which led to the suspicion of their involvement in the crime and ultimately to their arrest in March 1990.

Lyle was arrested on March 8, 1990, and taken to the Los Angeles County Men’s Jail. Erik turned himself in after hearing about his brother’s arrest. Erik was apprehended by police at the LAX airport after arriving from Israel. He too was taken to the Los Angeles County Men’s Jail. Their arraignment for first-degree murder took place on March 26, 1990. Both are serving life sentences without parole. They are to this day, incarcerated in a Southern California prison where they are allowed to see each other daily at meals and in the exercise yard.

The Menendez brothers may be together again, and they do have a lot in common, but an exploration of their individual horoscopes will unveil a unique difference, one that landed them in prison. It was Erik’s proneness to conscience that made the difference between holding to the lie the brothers had agreed upon and revealing the terrible truth of the diabolical murder of the unsuspecting parents. It was Erik’s Sharp Destiny, indicated by the opposition of Jupiter and Saturn in his chart that led him to confess to the crime, and with no major aspect between Jupiter and Saturn in Lyle’s chart, he quite differently than Erik, held out to the end.

SHARP AND LOOSE DESTINY

Defining the Sharp and Loose Destiny is one of several advanced procedures in chart analysis that were developed in the mid-20th century by astrologer par excellence, Dr. Marc Edmund Jones. Jones’ innovative techniques were based on early astrological practices, which he expounds on in his writings to give a deeper and more comprehensive scope to chart interpretation. In his chapter on Self-Ordering (1) in The Essentials of Astrological Analysis, he begins by pairing the planets into four distinct departments of Self-Determination. Each departmental pair is then assessed for a possible major aspect between their positive and negative significators.

The four planetary departments of Self-determination,

1) The Sun and Moon of Vitality, is the organic will-to-be of the Greater Light, coupled with the Lesser Light’s emotional response and connection to its surroundings.

2) Jupiter and Saturn, as they define the soul’s personal Motivation through Jupiter’s enthusiastic outreach, paired with Saturn’s complimentary sober self-reflection.

3) Mars and Venus are paired to establish Efficiency in experience, through the initiative of Mars in concert with Venus’s gratifying conclusions.

4) Uranus and Neptune, the planets of Significance, as they work together to encourage the elevation and expansion of consciousness beyond the personal motivations of Jupiter and Saturn.

Mercury and Pluto are supernumerary and not included in the technique of Self-determination.

Each planetary department is vital for a well-rounded involvement in the business of everyday living. However, it is the role of Jupiter and Saturn, the department of Motivation, to offer the native an opportunity to develop personal accountability. The development of self-conscious awareness unfolds and becomes the necessary foundation for the further development of higher consciousness, represented by Uranus and Neptune, the planetary pair of Significance in the process of self-realization in a more expansive comprehension. The prominence or lesser influence of the department of Motivation in any chart is determined by the major aspect between the planetary pair to signify whether the life is destined to a Sharp and conscious moral self-awareness, or when Loose, minimizes the focus on behavioral moral standards.

The aspect allowance between Jupiter and Saturn has an orb of 10 degrees. A Sharp Destiny is identified when the pair of Motivation is in conjunction, square, or opposition, with each aspect characterized by its own unique definition. These formidable aspects produce continuous self-monitoring, which in normal circumstances should lead to a dedication to high moral standards. A Loose Destiny is found in the chart with Jupiter and Saturn in sextile, trine, or not in major aspect, allowing the native to be more relaxed in the assessment of their own or others’ acts and attitudes, and with relative freedom from both internal conscience and external pressures.

The contribution of the Sharp and Loose Destiny technique, as it relates to all other chart configurations, helps form an assessment of the native’s potentials for the refinement of character. Jones elaborates, “The fundamental distinction is between the life with its course rather well-determined at birth, or before, and the one where there is little preset in its development.” (2)

JUPITER AND SATURN IN THE CHARTS OF LYLE AND ERIK MENENDEZ

The signature difference between the two brothers is defined by the one as experiencing a highly sensitive struggle in conscience that produced the guilt that led to his confession to the crime, and the other, by contrast, was more hardened to his commitment to withhold information thanks to his Loose Destiny and his lack of consideration of the right and wrong of the circumstances leading up to the fatal and irrevocable event.

It is Erik’s Jupiter and Saturn in an opposition aspect that defines his Sharp Destiny that differs greatly from Lyle’s Loose Destiny, determined by a lack of major aspects between the pair of Motivation.

From the book, The Menendez Murders:

“Only Erik was having a hard time living with it. He kept dreaming about the gory scene in the TV room. His guilt was overwhelming him. He had to confess to someone. Naturally, he had picked his therapist. Nobody had witnessed the crime. Nobody had found the weapons. Nobody had challenged their alibi. Nobody could point a finger at them.”

While in a therapy session with his psychotherapist, Dr. Jerome Oziel, Erik confessed that he and his brother killed their parents. “I was having trouble telling him (Dr. Oziel) about why I was suicidal since I hadn’t told him that I killed my parents, and so he wasn’t really getting it,” recalled Erik. “And so I just decided that I needed to tell somebody, and I decided to tell him right then . . . I really wanted him at that point to tell me that I wasn’t a bad person. And he couldn’t do that unless he knew that I killed my parents.” (3)

The motivation for Erik’s desire to have his therapist “forgive” him by telling him he wasn’t a bad person, was part of the process of conscience seeking to assuage the pain-producing guilt that arises from the realization of one’s wrongdoing.

JUPITER AND SATURN IN OPPOSITION ASPECT – From the Essentials of Astrological Analysis,

The horoscope of the seeker and prolific writer, Alexandra David-Neel is outstanding in the combined configurations of a Grand-Cross with a Grand Trine that are linked through the planet Mars.

Bill Gates – An International Asset

Bill Gates predicted there would be a world pandemic as early as 2015. How was he able to do that is anyone’s guess, however, the Sabian symbol of his elevated, High Focus Moon at 8 Aries 15 knows why.

ARIES 9 A crystal gazer This is a symbol of man’s capacity for bringing an entire universe within the purview of his mind. There are higher faculties of human understanding, but as no more than the illimitable possibilities of personal experience in the realms of potentiality. Astrobite: Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Final Days

Any astrologer looking at the natal horoscope of Ruth Bader Ginsburg would be able to suggest her final days were coming close. The most obvious base-note is transit Pluto slowing to station opposite her progressed and natal Pluto just 17 days before her passing.

At the same time, progressed Mars was making a conjunction with natal Jupiter. Both planets occasionally are connected with someone’s time of death. Transit Mars also stationary just seven days prior, supported the tensions of stationary Pluto as it made its conjunction with progressed Uranus.
